My educational philosophy is that our teachers and educational leaders should strive to turn students into not into mirrors, merely reflecting back knowledge, but rather, into windows. A true measure of a successful education is not whether students can regurgitate memorized information, but if they can use that newfound knowledge in practice through application and creation. By providing moments for connection and expansion, students develop a better understanding of the ever-changing world around them, and of themselves. Through collaboration with the English and Social Studies teachers at Hawthorne, I will ensure that students have diverse opportunities to study the human condition from a critical perspective, allowing those windows to brighten every classroom.
